چکیده

We propose and analyze a third-order in time numerical algorithm for the Stokes-Darcy system for flows in fluid saturated karst aquifers. A novel third-order Adams-Moulton scheme is used for the discretization of the dissipative term while a third-order explicit Adams-Bashforth scheme is utilized for the time discretization of the interface term. The scheme is efficient in the sense that one needs to solve two decoupled problems at each time step: one Stokes and one Darcy. Therefore, legacy Stokes solver and Darcy solver can be utilized in parallel efficiently. The scheme is also unconditionally stable and long-time accurate in the sense that the error is bounded uniformly in time. Our numerical experiments confirm our theoretical results. This is the first third-order numerical algorithm for the Stokes-Darcy system with such kind of efficiency, stability and accuracy so far as we know.

Efficient and Long-time Accurate Second-order Methods for Stokes-darcy Systems

We propose and study two second-order in time implicit-explicit (IMEX) methods for the coupled Stokes-Darcy system that governs flows in karst aquifers. The first is a combination of a second-order backward differentiation formula and the second-order Gear’s extrapolation approach. The second is a combination of the second-order Adams-Moulton and second-order Adams-Bashforth methods. Both algor...

Non-Iterative Partitioned Methods for Uncoupling Evolutionary Groundwater–Surface Water Flows

We present an overview of a modern, efficient approach for uncoupling groundwater–surface water flows governed by the fully evolutionary Stokes–Darcy equations. Referred to as non-iterative partitioned methods, these algorithms treat the coupling terms explicitly and at each time level require only one Stokes and one Darcy sub-physics solve, thus taking advantage of existing solvers optimized f...

Extension Ability of Reduced Order Model of Unsteady Incompressible Flows Using a Combination of POD and Fourier Modes

In this article, an improved reduced order modelling approach, based on the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method, is presented. After projecting the governing equations of flow dynamics along the POD modes, a dynamical system was obtained. Normally, the classical reduced order models do not predict accurate time variations of flow variables due to some reasons. The response of the dynam...
